7 Ways To Keep Your Cat Happy And Healthy

June 1 2019
Cats are very popular pets, and it isn’t hard to understand why. Fluffy is clean, cuddly, absolutely adorable, and highly entertaining. She’s also a pretty easy keeper. However, kitties do need a good amount of TLC in order to thrive. In this article, a Matthews, NC vet offers some tips on keeping your feline friend purring and healthy.

Basics

Good pet care really starts with good nutrition. Offer Fluffy the best food you can afford. Treats are fine, but don’t overindulge your pet. Fresh water and a clean litterbox are also important.

Entertainment

We know, cats seem to enjoy doing as little as possible. However, even the laziest kitty can’t sleep all day. Playing is very important for your furry friend, and will benefit her both mentally and physically. Offer your pet lots of toys to pounce on, and take time to hold a laser pointer or wand toy for her to chase.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy may not be thrilled about coming to visit us, but she will both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. That includes spaying and neutering, regular exams, vaccinations, dental exams, and parasite control. Also, contact your vet right away if you know or suspect that your furball is sick. Early diagnosis and treatment are very beneficial!

Kitty Luxuries

It’s not hard to turn your home into a luxury hotel for a cat. Offer Fluffy a few pieces of pet furniture, such as a cat tower. Comfy beds are another must. Your kitty will also appreciate a comfy window seat, so she can relax and spy on the neighborhood birds and squirrels.

Safety

Our feline pals have a reputation for being mischievous, and not without reason. Fluffy does have a way of getting into trouble. Make your home safe for your frisky furball by removing or securing potential dangers, such as toxic plants, wires and cords, small or sharp objects, and household chemicals. We also recommend keeping cats inside.

Boxes

Cats are full of adorable quirks. Indulge Fluffy’s box obsession by giving her cardboard boxes regularly.

Love

Last but not least, pay attention to Fluffy. Talk to your feline buddy, pet her, and just generally make sure she feels loved and safe. Happy cats are healthy cats, and vice versa! Please reach out to us, your Matthews, NC vet clinic, anytime. We’re here to help!
